Ongoing Battle Against Forest Fires
Forest fire in İzmir’s Bornova district forces evacuation of rural neighborhoods
The rural Beşyol and Sarnıç neighborhoods in the Bornova district of İzmir have been evacuated due to a raging forest fire that has reached the area. İzmir Governor Süleyman Elban confirmed that the fire quickly spread to the villages of Beşyol and Sarnıç shortly after it broke out, causing the surrounding forests to also catch fire.
Multiple firefighting teams are currently working tirelessly to combat the flames, utilizing both air and land resources. Governor Elban stated that there are 15 aircrafts being used in the firefighting efforts, although more cannot be deployed due to the narrow area affected by the fire. The gendarmerie has taken necessary precautions to ensure the safety of residents in the area, and both villages have been successfully evacuated.
Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries or casualties thus far, although a total of 3 houses in Beşyol and 4 houses in Sarnıç have been damaged by the fire. The teams are focused on containing the fire and preventing it from spreading further.
In addition to the firefighting efforts, forestry and AFAD teams have also been involved in evacuating animals from some chicken coops and pens in the region to ensure their safety.
The situation remains critical, but authorities are working diligently to bring the fire under control and protect the lives and properties of those affected by this devastating incident.
