Operation Crackdown on Gun Smugglers in Turkey
Minister of Internal Affairs Ali Yerlikaya has made a strong statement on social media regarding the government’s ongoing efforts to combat illegal weapons trafficking in Turkey. In a recent post, he highlighted the successful “Mercek-26” operations that were carried out across all 81 provinces to crackdown on gun smugglers and individuals in possession of unlicensed firearms.
According to Yerlikaya, a total of 2,511 weapons were seized during these operations, including 1,271 unlicensed pistols, 534 blank-firing pistols, 43 long-barreled rifles, and 663 unlicensed hunting rifles. In addition, action was taken against 1,310 suspects who were involved in the illegal arms trade.
The Minister also provided specific details about the weapons seized in various cities and the suspects who have been detained as a result of these operations. He expressed his gratitude to the law enforcement officers who have worked tirelessly to ensure the success of these operations.
Yerlikaya’s statement underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to tackling criminal groups and preventing the flow of illegal weapons into the country. The fight against gun smuggling and unlicensed weapon possession will continue to be a top priority, with authorities vowing to track down and bring to justice those responsible for fueling violence and instability in the region.
