Orbán: Italians and Hungarians are Unyielding Freedom Fighters

Italians and Hungarians Unite in Pontida with Viktor Orbán and Matteo Salvini
The spirit of freedom and resistance was palpable in Pontida, northern Italy, as Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán addressed the annual rally of Matteo Salvini’s League party. In his speech, Orbán praised the historical bond between the Italian and Hungarian people as two nations that have never surrendered their freedom to foreign powers.
On October 6, Hungary commemorated a national day of mourning to honor the heroes of the 1848/49 revolution and war of independence, highlighting the shared heritage of resistance against tyranny. Orbán emphasized that both Italians and Hungarians have a long history of fighting for their independence and sovereignty, and it is a legacy that they continue to uphold today.
“Italians and Hungarians are two freedom fighter people, and we are their heirs. We will never surrender, we will never give up our freedom, and we will never hand over our country to foreigners,” Orbán declared, reaffirming a commitment to protecting their nations from external threats.
Orbán also praised Matteo Salvini as a European patriot, lauding his efforts to secure Italy’s borders and defend the interests of its citizens. Salvini, who has been a strong advocate for border security and immigration control, was hailed as a hero in Hungary for his unwavering stance against illegal migration.
The Hungarian Prime Minister criticized the legal proceedings initiated against Salvini, calling them a “disgrace” orchestrated by the political left and a threat to the principles of sovereignty and national identity. Orbán reiterated that both Italy and Hungary belonged to their respective people, not to external forces such as Brussels bureaucrats or global financial powers.
The alliance between Italians and Hungarians, as symbolized by the partnership between Orbán and Salvini, reflects a shared commitment to preserving their nations’ independence and cultural heritage. In a time of growing challenges to national sovereignty, the solidarity between these two freedom-loving peoples serves as a beacon of hope and resilience in the face of adversity.
