A Family Donates Organs of Young Man After Traffic Accident
In a tragic turn of events, a 21-year-old young man involved in a traffic accident was treated at the hospital, where his family made the selfless decision to donate his organs. The Antalya City Hospital successfully conducted an operation to retrieve the young man’s heart, kidneys, liver, and cornea.
Dr. Gözde Özge Ertunç, the Responsible Doctor at the Antalya Organ and Tissue Transplant Regional Coordination Center, explained that the young man was transferred to Antalya City Hospital after the accident. Despite the medical team’s efforts, the young man unfortunately lost his life after being in intensive care for seven days and experiencing brain death.
Dr. Ertunç expressed gratitude towards the family for their decision to donate the organs, stating, “The family’s willingness to donate the young man’s organs is incredibly valuable to us.” The heart, liver, cornea, and one kidney of the young man will be used to save the lives of patients in Antalya, while the other kidney will be sent to a patient in Kahramanmaraş who is awaiting a transplant.
This act of generosity by the young man’s family serves as a reminder of the importance of organ donation and the impact it can have in saving lives.
