Uruguay’s New President, Orsi, Assumes Office in Handover Ceremony
In a historic handover ceremony held in Independence Square in the capital city of Montevideo, Uruguay’s newly elected President, Orsi, officially took over the reins of power from former President Luis Lacalle.
Following the ceremony, Orsi was invited to the Legislative Palace where he was sworn in as the President of Uruguay, a position he will hold until 2030. Addressing the gathered guests, Orsi emphasized the importance of trust in a democracy, stating that Uruguay will continue to work tirelessly for the benefit of its citizens.
Reflecting on Uruguay’s political history and the struggles the country has faced in the past, Orsi highlighted the importance of protecting freedom, truth, and justice. He stressed the need for strong institutions, equal justice for all, and the principle of the separation of powers in order to maintain a healthy democracy.
Orsi, the third leftist leader in Uruguay’s history, received substantial support from former President Jose Mujica during the election process. The oath ceremony was attended by dignitaries from around the world, including the King of Spain, Felipe 6, Chilean President Gabriel Boric, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva, and many others.
As Orsi begins his term as President, he has pledged to base his administration’s policies on a deep understanding of the needs and concerns of the Uruguayan people. By listening to diverse perspectives and prioritizing human emotions in decision-making, Orsi hopes to lead Uruguay towards a brighter future filled with progress and prosperity.
