Over 60,000 Battery Electric Cars on Hungarian Roads
The number of fully electric cars in Hungary has seen a significant increase, reaching over 60,000 in September, according to the Energy Ministry. This number includes not only electric cars but also electric trucks and buses, bringing the total of battery-electric vehicles in Hungary close to 65,000.
In September alone, 2,072 BEVs were registered in Hungary, showcasing a growing trend towards electric vehicles in the country. The Hungarian government has also shown its commitment to promoting electromobility by allocating HUF 60bn (EUR 149.26) for various programs, including incentives for BEV purchases and the development of charging infrastructure.
One recent development in the field of electromobility in Hungary is the signing of 12-year contracts between the Budapest Public Transport Centre (BKK) and ArrivaBus. These contracts will bring 70 new electric buses by BYD into service starting from the spring of 2026, contributing to the efforts to reduce emissions and improve air quality in the city.
With these initiatives and investments, Hungary is taking important steps towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation sector. The shift towards electric vehicles not only benefits the environment but also contributes to reducing dependence on fossil fuels and creating a cleaner and healthier future for all.
