Over 700,000 Forced to Flee: UN Reports Gaza Displacement Crisis
The UN Office for Human Rights in Palestine has recently issued a statement regarding the dire situation of displaced Palestinians in Gaza. According to the statement, over 600 thousand Palestinians in the south of Gaza and more than 100 thousand in the north, including vulnerable groups such as children, elderly, and disabled individuals, have been forced to flee their homes due to Israel’s attacks and “evacuation” warnings.
The statement emphasized the need for Israeli forces to cease putting the displaced population at risk and instead focus on meeting their basic needs. It also called for the facilitation of the entry and distribution of humanitarian aid and other essential items to support the affected individuals.
On May 7, the Israeli army initiated ground attacks in the east of Rafah, where many displaced Palestinians had sought shelter. The attacks continued to escalate on May 10, with the Israeli army intensifying its operations in the north of Gaza, particularly in the Cibaliya region.
The ongoing conflict has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with innocent civilians bearing the brunt of the violence. The UN Office for Human Rights in Palestine continues to monitor the situation closely and calls for the protection of the rights and well-being of all individuals affected by the conflict.
