TRNC Representatives Discuss Gender Equality at TURKPA Meeting
Fazilet Özdenefe, Vice President of the TRNC Republican Assembly, and UBP Deputy, Resimye Canaltay, recently attended a meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkish States (TURKPA) Specialized Commissions held in Antalya. The meeting was titled “Ensuring Equal Opportunities for Women and Men and Empowering Women” and was the perfect platform to discuss gender equality and women’s empowerment.
The TRNC delegation also included Seral Fırat, Secretary General of the Parliament, and TRNC Antalya Consul General Cem Topçu. Throughout the meeting, representatives from member countries discussed various topics related to women’s rights and empowerment.
In her speech, Vice President Özdenefe emphasized the role of Turkish Cypriot women in the struggle for equality and explained the progress made in increasing women’s representation in parliament. She also highlighted the importance of legal regulations to ensure gender equality and called for strategies to support women’s employment and production.
On the other hand, UBP Deputy Resimye Eroğlu Canaltay focused on the obstacles women face in balancing work and family life and discussed the need for laws that protect women’s rights and promote gender equality.
Overall, the TURKPA meeting was an important opportunity for TRNC representatives to exchange experiences and ideas with their counterparts from other member countries. The discussions held at the meeting will undoubtedly contribute to ongoing efforts to achieve gender equality and empower women in the TRNC and other member states.
