Pakistan Permits Afghan Trucks to Transit through India

Pakistan Resumes Trade with Afghanistan Amidst Tensions with India
In a recent development, the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced a significant decision regarding trade with Afghanistan. A statement from the ministry indicated that the Pakistani government will allow Afghan trucks to deliver goods that were already in Pakistan before April 25, 2025. This decision reflects the longstanding brotherhood relationship between the two nations.
The announcement comes on the heels of escalating tensions between Pakistan and India. Following a tragic terrorist attack in the Kashmir region, which resulted in the loss of 26 lives and numerous injuries on April 22, Pakistan took decisive action. The attack occurred when armed assailants opened fire on tourists in the Jammu and Kashmir territory controlled by India.
In response to the violence, India accused Pakistan of harboring those responsible for the attack. In retaliation, India suspended the "Indus Waters Agreement," demanded that Pakistani undersecretaries leave the country within a week, and announced a complete cessation of visa services for Pakistani citizens, effectively canceling all existing visas.
Pakistan, on its part, has vehemently denied the accusations, asserting that such claims are baseless. The Islamabad administration further restricted the number of diplomatic personnel in the country and issued a stern warning that any intervention in water rights could be considered an act of war. As a result, Pakistan ceased all trade activities with India and closed its airspace.
Despite these heightened tensions with India, the decision to facilitate Afghan trade underscores Pakistan’s commitment to its neighboring country. The future of bilateral trade relations remains uncertain, as geopolitical dynamics continue to evolve in the region.
