Palestinian Activist Maryam Abu Dhaka Expelled from France

Palestinian Activist Abu Dhaka Deported from France

Activist Abu Dhaka was deported from France on Friday, November 12th, according to information reported by Revolution Permanente. Dhaka, a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, had come to France in September to speak about the living conditions of Palestinians in the country.

After being stopped by police in Marseille for “disturbing public order” on October 16th, Dhaka was placed under house arrest for 45 days. The Ministry of Internal Affairs issued a deportation order against him but a local court temporarily halted the execution of the order. However, the Ministry of Internal Affairs appealed the decision to the Council of State, which ultimately approved the deportation on November 8th, stating that Dhaka had no ties in France.

Earlier this week, plainclothes police officers detained Dhaka in Paris, leading to protests from some opposition Members of Parliament, including Sebastien Delogu from the Unyielding France (LFI) party.

Abu Dhaka was deported from Paris to Cairo, Egypt, where he was accompanied by the police upon his departure from France. His deportation has prompted discussion and debate about the treatment of activists and the Palestinian cause in France.
