Palestinian President Vows to Prevent Separation of Gaza from West Bank
Mahmoud Abbas Condemns Separation Plan in Meeting with Fatah Committee
Mahmoud Abbas, the President of Palestine, recently met with members of the Fatah Movement Central Committee in Ramallah and made strong statements regarding the situation in Gaza and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s leaked plan for the region.
Abbas expressed his firm stance against any plan that would separate Gaza from the West Bank, stating, “We will not allow the plan to separate Gaza from the West Bank.” He emphasized the need for an immediate ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and the expedited entry of humanitarian aid. Abbas also stressed the importance of preventing the displacement of Palestinians from their land and highlighted the ongoing impact of the Nakba on the Palestinian people.
Furthermore, Abbas called for an end to the policy of attacks, destruction, and killing against Palestinians in Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza. He condemned the Apartheid system and ethnic cleansing policies enforced by Israeli forces.
In addition, Abbas asserted the Palestinian authority’s responsibility for the integrity of Palestinian lands in East Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza. He pledged to support the people of Gaza and stated that plans to separate the region from the rest of Palestine would not be allowed.
Abbas also mentioned the efforts being made in collaboration with Arab and Western countries to stop the aggression and provide necessary aid to the people of Gaza.
Regarding the withheld tax revenues by Israel, Abbas affirmed that this would not hinder their commitment to supporting the people in Gaza, particularly in terms of fulfilling their financial obligations.
The meeting came after reports in the Israeli press about a post-war plan for Gaza prepared by Prime Minister Netanyahu, involving the establishment of a military administration in Gaza, a new Palestinian administration, and the establishment of an unarmed Palestinian state in the West Bank. Abbas did not respond directly to these reports but reaffirmed the Palestinian position against any plan that would lead to the separation of Gaza from the rest of Palestine.
