Panel on Combatting Islamophobia Held at Turkish House in New York
The Consulate Generals of Türkiye, Indonesia, and Pakistan recently held a panel at Türkevi in New York to address the issue of Islamophobia. New York Consul General Reyhan Özgür emphasized the importance of combating Islamophobia, which undermines the principles of diversity, unity, and mutual respect in society. Özgür highlighted that Islamophobia not only targets Muslims but also fuels division and intolerance on a global scale, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to combat it.
The panel, moderated by Amra Sabic-El-Rayess from Columbia University, featured presentations from experts on Islamophobia. Prof. Enes Bayraklı from Turkish German University highlighted the ongoing Israeli attacks in Gaza as an example of the global apartheid system and emphasized the need for unity among Muslim countries. Indonesian Dr. Imam Shams Ali echoed the call for unity among Islamic nations, emphasizing the importance of rebuilding the world together. Pakistani writer Raza Ahmed Rumi urged Muslims to draw inspiration from their rich history of culture and tolerance, acting as exemplary individuals in Western societies.
The panel concluded with a question and answer session, underscoring the importance of addressing Islamophobia through education, dialogue, and cooperation among nations and communities.
