Pannonhalma to Mark World Music Day with Baroque Compositions

The Benedictine Archabbey of Pannonhalma, located in western Hungary, will host a special concert on September 27 to celebrate World Music Day. Organist Dániel Sárosi will perform works by seven remarkable composers of the Baroque era on the Chapel of Our Lady’s restored organ.
The concert will feature pieces by renowned Baroque composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach, Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, and Johann Adam Reincken. Highlights include Sweelinck’s Toccata in A minor, Bach’s violin concerto in A minor, and Pastorale in F major, as well as Reincken’s toccata. The program will also include works by Johann Jakob Froberger, Johann Caspar Kerll, and Georg Muffat.
Organist Dániel Sárosi and violinist Ákos Barra Jr. will interpret the pieces at the concert. Sárosi, a distinguished musician, teaches organ at the Kodály Zoltán Music Secondary School and performs regularly in Hungary and abroad. Barra Jr., a former first violinist of the Kodály Philharmonic Orchestra, is currently an assistant professor at the Kodály Zoltán Music Secondary School.
This concert is part of the Pannonhalma Archabbey’s 2024 Organ Concerto Series and will be the fifth event of the year. The series will culminate with a final concert at the medieval St. Martin’s Basilica on December 26, celebrating its 800th anniversary. Zsolt Kiss, basilica’s organist and choirmaster, will play festive melodies at this special event.
Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the beauty and artistry of Baroque music in the picturesque setting of the Benedictine Archabbey of Pannonhalma.
