Parliament Considers Comprehensive Raise Proposal for All Retirees, Including EYT Members
New Article: Increase in Retirement Payments for Turkish Retirees
After the recent increase in welfare shares for civil servants, it has been announced that approximately 15 million retirees will also benefit from the increase. The proposal to increase pensions by 25 percent, along with the inflation difference, was accepted by the Plan and Budget Committee of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
Under the new regulation, retirees from the Pension Fund, Bağ-Kur, and SSK will receive a total increase of 25 percent for six months of the year. The regulation will come into effect upon its publication and will be implemented starting in July.
All eyes are now on the General Assembly of the Assembly as the regulation awaits further discussion. The proposal will be reviewed and debated at the General Assembly starting tomorrow.
So, how will this 25 percent increase be reflected in retirees’ salaries? Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University Lecturer, Tarkan Zengin, provided some insights to TRT Haber. He mentioned that in addition to the existing 17.55 percent pension, an additional increase of 6.34 percent will be given. Consequently, the salary of SSK and Bağkur retirees will increase from 19.77 percent to 25 percent. For example, if a retiree’s pension is currently 10,000 lira, it will be increased to 12,500 lira. Similarly, for pensions of 12,000 lira, the amount will be raised to 15,000 lira, and for pensions of 15,000 lira, it will increase to 18,750 lira.
Importantly, this regulation will also benefit those who retire this year. The law on age-at-retirement (EYT) was passed in March, ensuring that those who qualify under EYT will already benefit from these increases. Additionally, those who retire in and after July will also be eligible for this additional increase.
This increase in retirement payments reflects the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of retirees and ensuring a more comfortable and financially stable future for them.
