Parliament discusses Secondary School Disciplinary Regulations – BRTK

In a recent session of the Republican Assembly, discussions were held regarding the rules and discipline to be implemented in secondary schools and high schools in Turkey.

During the session, CTP deputy Ongun Talat raised concerns about the Minister of Education’s announcement in the Turkish press regarding changes to the regulations. Talat emphasized the importance of maintaining discipline and questioned the need for the Ministry of National Education to have authority over issues such as school uniforms.

Criticism was also directed at the Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Erhan Arıklı, for his handling of the situation. Talat expressed that there is no need to create divisions based on beliefs and stressed the importance of finding a Cypriot-specific solution to the issue.

In response, Minister Cavusoglu clarified that no official statements were made to the Turkish press without proper information. He emphasized his commitment to Kemalist secular education and the importance of upholding the Constitution and laws in addressing educational issues.

Further discussions were held regarding the challenges facing higher education institutions in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. CTP Deputy Sami Özuslu highlighted concerns about the quality of education in universities and the impact of recent reports on the reputation of TRNC universities internationally.

Overall, the session highlighted the importance of maintaining discipline and standards in education while also addressing the need for improvements in higher education institutions to uphold quality and credibility. The government and relevant authorities were called upon to take necessary actions in line with the concerns raised during the session.
