Parliament Speaker Töre at Gaziveren’s Youth Success Awards ceremony
Acting President and President of the Assembly of the Republic, Zorlu Töre, recently attended an award night organized by the Gaziveren Association to honor athletes who made the region proud with their achievements in various sports competitions in 2023.
The parliament’s written statement announced that the event recognized outstanding regional athletes Su Öz, Celal Sekmen, Cemal Zurnacı, Özlem Soydam, Demir Öztoprak, and Bartu Güzen.
Addressing attendees at the award ceremony, Töre highlighted the important role that athletes have played during the national struggle of the Turkish Cypriot people, as evidenced by the names given to the clubs.
He emphasized the significance of uniting young people through activities promoted by organizations such as the Gaziveren Association. Töre also stressed the importance of raising children in accordance with national values, quoting Atatürk’s words and noting that sports and cultural activities help keep young people away from negative influences.
Töre underlined that society as a whole, including non-governmental organizations, headmen’s offices, municipalities, and local notables, has a responsibility in this regard. He also congratulated the successful athletes and witnessed the presentation of plaques to these outstanding young individuals at the end of the event.
