In addition to Canaltay, the TRNC delegation comprised of Committee Deputy Chairman Erkut Şahali, UBP Deputy Alişan Şan, Hasan Küçük, CTP Deputy Salahi Şahiner, former Committee member Fikri Toros, and Parliament Secretary General Seral Fırat.

During the meeting, Canaltay expressed a strong desire to resolve the Cyprus issue in alignment with the mutual interests of Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, emphasizing sovereignty, freedom, security, and the guarantor relationship with Turkey. He also noted the significance of Turkish President Erdogan’s calls for the official recognition of the TRNC at the UN General Assembly meetings, stating that it sets an example for the Middle East.

Canaltay highlighted the importance of the two-state solution proposed by President Erdogan and the TRNC government, calling for support from those interested in promoting peace and stability in the region. He mentioned ongoing cooperation between Turkey and the TRNC under the “2023 Economic and Financial Cooperation Agreement”, focusing on fiscal discipline, reforms, and public finance measures.

The delegation discussed various legislative initiatives and development projects aimed at enhancing economic growth and infrastructure in the TRNC, including improvements in transportation networks, industrial zones, healthcare facilities, and energy supply. Canaltay emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to address challenges such as high flight ticket prices, customs issues, and inflation, to make the TRNC a more attractive destination for students and tourists.

Muş, Chairman of the GNAT Planning and Budget Commission, expressed support for the TRNC’s pursuit of full independence and their struggle for recognition on the global stage. He reaffirmed Turkey’s backing for the two-state solution proposed by TRNC President Ersin Tatar and reiterated President Erdogan’s calls for international recognition of the TRNC.
