Partnership Agreement between Ministry of Education and Istanbul University – BRTK
A new cooperation protocol has been established between the Ministry of National Education and Istanbul University to support Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) students in pursuing their education in Turkey.
According to the recent statement released by the Ministry, Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu and Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Yahya Güldiken signed the protocol, which designates a special quota at Istanbul University for TRNC national students interested in studying at the university as part of the international student quotas set by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). This collaboration aims to facilitate TRNC students’ enrollment in undergraduate programs at Istanbul University.
Under the terms of the protocol, the academic assessments of TRNC students applying for the designated quotas will be conducted by the Higher Education and Foreign Relations Department within the Ministry of National Education. The final evaluation of the students will be carried out by Istanbul University, which will then provide the necessary information for registration to the students and the Higher Education and Foreign Relations Department.
Minister Nazım Çavuşoğlu emphasized the significance of this collaboration in strengthening educational ties between the two countries. He expressed his satisfaction in providing TRNC students with the opportunity to study at Istanbul University, a prestigious institution in Turkey. Çavuşoğlu highlighted the potential for students to enhance their skills and contribute to the development of their home country through this partnership.
In his remarks, Vice Rector Yahya Güldiken welcomed the TRNC students to Istanbul University, emphasizing the value they bring to the university community. He reassured students of the university’s support and commitment to their academic success. Güldiken acknowledged the role of the collaboration in fostering educational cooperation between Turkey and the TRNC.
Following the protocol signing ceremony, Minister Çavuşoğlu visited the “Cyprus in Documents” exhibition at Istanbul University, further demonstrating the historical and cultural ties between the two countries.
The establishment of this cooperation protocol signifies a positive step towards enhancing educational opportunities for TRNC students and strengthening the bond between Istanbul University and the TRNC.
