Passengers on Wizz Air flight diverted to Tirana without explanation
Passengers on a Wizz Air flight bound for Montenegro were left bewildered when their plane unexpectedly landed in Albania instead of their intended destination. The flight was redirected to Tirana after encountering dense fog at Podgorica’s airport, forcing the pilots to abort their landing attempt.
According to a report from a reader to Telex, passengers were disembarked in Tirana without any explanation for the diversion. The aircraft then continued on to Memmingen, Germany, leaving travellers stranded in both Albania and Montenegro. However, Wizz Air later confirmed that passengers bound for Podgorica were transported by bus to their original destination.
In response to the incident, Wizz Air offered affected passengers free ticket modifications for alternative flights and accommodations until their new departure time. The airline also reassured travellers that their safety remains a top priority.
In other news, Wizz Air is set to introduce new flights to make use of available capacity after suspending flights to Tel Aviv until January 2025. CEO József Váradi mentioned plans to allocate extra capacities to other routes following the decision regarding Israel.
