Passionate Support for Palestine: Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi’s Mission for Positive Change
Eygi, a Turkish activist and recent graduate of the University of Washington, was tragically killed by Israeli forces while standing in solidarity with Palestinian farmers in Beita, Nablus. The news of her death has sparked outrage and sadness among her friends, family, and the community at large.
Eygi, also known as Ayşe, had completed a double major in Psychology and Middle Eastern Languages and Culture at the University of Washington in June 2024. Described as a passionate individual dedicated to creating a positive impact, Eygi had a diverse professional experience that included mentoring, behavioral therapy, and marketing, as well as volunteer work in under-resourced communities.
Eygi’s involvement with the International Solidarity Movement (ISM), which supports Palestinians through peaceful and civil methods against the occupation of their lands, led her to participate as an observer in demonstrations in the West Bank city of Nablus on September 3. Tragically, on September 6, Eygi was deliberately targeted and killed by an Israeli sniper while attending a demonstration in Beyta.
Eyewitnesses reported that Eygi was shot by a sniper positioned on a nearby rooftop, despite being far from the demonstration area. Despite efforts to save her, Eygi passed away at a Palestinian hospital.
Friends and colleagues remembered Eygi as a kind and compassionate individual who had a bright future ahead of her. Washington University lecturer Lubna Alzaroo shared a heartfelt tribute to Eygi on social media, recounting their brief encounter and expressing deep sorrow over her untimely death.
The loss of Eygi has reverberated throughout the community, with many calling for justice and an end to the violence in the region. Eygi’s memory will live on as a symbol of courage and dedication to the pursuit of peace and justice.
