Peace Operation Veterans and Artist Ediz Hun Visit TMT Mujahideen Association
Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Happy Peace Operation, veterans, martyrs’ families, and renowned cinema artist Ediz Hun recently visited the TMT Mujahideen Association in TRNC. The visit was marked by the presentation of plaques and certificates of appreciation to the participants.
A special moment was captured when a photograph from the 1980s, featuring the esteemed artist Türkan Şoray, was presented to her during the event. Despite health concerns preventing her from attending in person, Şoray was honored in absentia.
The program commenced at the TMT Mujahideen Association Hall with a moment of silence and the recitation of the National Anthem. Subsequently, speeches were delivered by notable figures at the event.
Retired Major Çetin Serez, Deputy Chairman of the Cyprus TMT Mujahideen Association, emphasized the enduring significance of the Happy Peace Operation, highlighting the heroic resistance of the mujahideen against the Greek forces that sought to annihilate the Turkish Cypriots. Serez underscored the unwavering dedication of the mujahideen to safeguarding the lives and freedom of their people and the Turkish nation, ultimately achieving success through patience and perseverance.
In his address, Cyprus TMT Mujahideen Association Chairman Celal Bayar recounted the challenges faced by the community from 1955 to 1974, including the necessity of evacuating villages due to hostile attacks. Bayar stressed the indomitable spirit of the TMT members in upholding Turkish presence in Cyprus, asserting that the island could never become Greek under their watch. He declared that the Happy Peace Operation of July 20, 1974, marked a pivotal moment in securing freedom and victory for Turkish Cypriots.
The visit concluded with a tour of the “Turkish Cypriot History, Culture, and National Struggle Museum” housed within the association building, encapsulating the rich heritage and resilience of the Turkish Cypriot community. The event served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made and the triumphs achieved in the pursuit of peace and independence.
