Perihan Aziz’s Final Journey: Farewell in Bagliköy – BRTK
Perihan Aziz, a veteran journalist and former director of the Turkish Agency Cyprus (TAK), passed away today at the age of 72. She will be honored in her birthplace, Bağlıköy, with a ceremony to be held at TAK where she served for 37 years.
Born on February 19, 1952, in Bağlıköy, Lefke, Perihan Aziz completed her education at Ankara University, Faculty of Political Sciences. Throughout her career, she worked as a reporter, news editor, assistant director, and eventually became the Director of TAK in 2010.
Aside from her professional contributions, Aziz was also active in advocating for women’s and children’s rights, participating in social projects, and serving on journalist organizations. She witnessed and reported on many historical events in Cyprus, retiring in 2012.
In her retirement, Aziz focused on promoting eco-friendly practices in Bağlıköy and ran a boutique hotel in her village. She was also known for supporting women’s cooperative initiatives. Her life story was even documented in a film by the Women’s Stories Association.
Perihan Aziz leaves behind a legacy of dedication to journalism, advocacy for social causes, and a commitment to her community. She will be remembered for her contributions to the Turkish Cypriot press and her efforts to make a positive impact on society. Rest in peace, Perihan Aziz.
