Permanent Teachers Left Unpaid by BRTK

The Turkish Cypriot Teachers’ Union (KTÖS) has raised concerns over the Ministry of National Education failing to pay the salaries of permanent teachers since April, attributing it to a “technical error”.

According to a statement by KTÖS Education Secretary Süleyman Gelener, the Union has previously highlighted the Ministry’s negative approach towards teachers’ rights and professional development. Gelener emphasized that the Ministry’s actions, such as deducting extra salaries and withholding allowances, demonstrate a lack of support for teachers.

“We are witnessing yet another example of this negative behavior,” Gelener stated, referring to the Ministry’s failure to pay teachers’ salaries under the guise of a technical error. KTÖS vehemently opposes this unfair treatment and arbitrary actions by the Ministry.

Gelener warned that legal action will be taken if the issue is not promptly resolved, stating, “We will continue to fight for the rights of our teachers and will utilize all available legal and union resources to address this discriminatory practice.”

The KTÖS remains committed to defending the rights of teachers and ensuring fair treatment within the education sector.
