Pink Martini Delights Fans in Istanbul with European Tour
30th June 2023 – Popular musical group Pink Martini, known for their hits such as ‘Sympathique’, ‘Hang on Little Tomato’, and ‘Hey Eugene’, recently performed in Istanbul as part of their European tour. The band, who has a large fan base in Turkey and has achieved gold and platinum records with their album ‘Je Dis Oui’, surprised their Turkish fans by including Belkıs Özener’s song ‘Aşkım Bahardı’ in their album. During their Istanbul concert, they also performed their unique interpretation of the song ‘Katibim’, originally performed by Safiye Ayla. The concert in Istanbul drew an impressive crowd, with 3000 people in attendance.
One fan, Demet Sağıroğlu, expressed their excitement, stating, “I am very happy because I have loved them since the 90s. I used to follow them closely, and we have had the opportunity to become friends since we are artists under the same management company. We met in Bodrum 7-8 years ago and had dinner together. Now, I am fortunate to see them perform again, and I am incredibly happy. They love Turks very much, and I heard they are even incorporating new Turkish songs into their albums.”
Another attendee, famous singer Ayşegül Aldinç, shared her anticipation for the concert, saying, “I have seen them perform before, and every time, we fall in love with their music. I remember they sang a song on their way to Üsküdar. I used to listen to their CDs, and I am sure we are in for a delightful night.”
Serpin Arslan, who also attended the concert, mentioned her admiration for the band, stating, “The soloists are incredibly lovely. I have seen them before, and they have a genuine love for Turks. They bring the vibrant spirit of Cuba with them. That’s why I enjoy watching and listening to their performances. They are very friendly, which is not surprising as I heard the lead singer is Spanish, and there are resemblances between Spanish and Turkish cultures.”
