PiriReis: Guardian of the Blue Homeland

Aksaz Shipyard Command Opening and Sea Platforms Delivery Ceremony took place with President Erdoğan in attendance. The ceremony included the commissioning of the first submarine, PiriReis, built under the Air Independent Propulsion System Submarine Project.
During the event, the Hızırreis submarine began its flag-raising and sailing exercises, while the Muratreis submarine started its pool equipment activities. Additionally, the FUEL 2-3-4 fuel ships and the 3,000-ton submarine pool, the largest of its kind in the world, were also put into service.
The highlight of the ceremony was the debut of TCG PiriReis, the first submarine of the Defense Industry Executive Committee (SSİK) project launched in June 2005. This submarine, which is approximately 3 meters longer than standard submarines, boasts impressive features including the ability to reach speeds of over 10 knots on the surface and 20 knots in diving conditions. With a crew of 27, the submarine is equipped with an Air Independent Propulsion System, allowing it to operate underwater for weeks without surfacing. It also houses main weapons and systems for guided missile firing, with 8 torpedo tubes and the capability to launch mobile cruise missiles.
The Reis-class submarine, with a length of 67.6 meters, underwater displacement of 2,013 tons, and a crew of 27, marks a significant milestone in Turkey’s defense capabilities. President Erdoğan announced the submarine’s entry into service, praising its superior features.
The delivery ceremony showcased Turkey’s commitment to strengthening its naval capabilities and ensuring national security in the region. The successful commissioning of these sea platforms marks a new era for Turkey’s defense industry.
