Poland Takes Over Rotating EU Presidency for 6 Months
Poland Assumes EU Presidency from Hungary
Poland has officially taken over the presidency of the European Union from Hungary, starting from July 1, 2024. The presidency rotates every 6 months among EU member states, and Poland will hold this position until July 1, 2025.
Under the slogan “Security, Europe!”, Poland aims to focus on addressing various challenges facing the EU. As the country most affected by the ongoing Russia-Ukraine War and neighboring Belarus, Poland will prioritize increasing defense spending and strengthening the European defense industry among member states.
Additionally, Poland will work towards finding new solutions to tackle migration and security issues at the EU’s external borders, with a focus on reducing irregular migration and implementing effective procedures for returns. The country is particularly concerned with Belarus using immigrants as weapons and engaging in hybrid warfare.
In addition to these priorities, Poland will also prioritize combating disinformation and reducing energy dependency within the EU. The presidency aims to promote a more secure and resilient Europe during its term.
The presidency will be passed on to Denmark on July 1, 2025, as part of the EU’s rotational system. Poland’s term as president of the EU will be crucial in shaping the future of the union and addressing pressing challenges on the agenda.
