Political parties in Adana have equal representation in Parliament
The Adana Provincial election results are in and 1,448,453 citizens out of 1,648,919 voters cast their ballot. According to unofficial results, the AK Party’s Ömer Çelik, Ahmet Zenbilci, Sunay Karamık, Abdullah Doğru, and Faruk Aytek; MHP’s Orhan Sümer, Burhanettin Bulut, Müzeyyen Şevkin, Sadullah Kısacık, and Ayhan Barut; Muharrem Varlı and Ayşe Sibel Ersoy from the MHP; Ayyüce Türkeş Taş and Bilal Bilici from the IYI Party, and Tülay Hatimoğulları Oruc from the Green Left Party were elected to enter Parliament.
The AK Party maintained the number of their deputies from the 2018 general elections, keeping their five seats in the Adana Parliament. On the other hand, the CHP saw an increase in their number of deputies, from four to five, while MHP and IYI Party maintained their two seats apiece. Unfortunately, the Green Left Party saw their number of seats decrease from two to one.
Ömer Çelik from the AK Party secured his seat as a member of Parliament for the fifth time. He previously served as a member of parliament for the 22nd, 23rd, 24th, and 26th terms in Adana. Ayyüce Türkeş Taş, daughter of the late Alparslan Türkeş, founder of the Nationalist Movement Party, was also elected and will represent the IYI Party in Parliament.
In terms of votes, the AK Party received 34.69 percent of the votes in the 2018 elections, but this fell to 30.68 percent. The CHP, however, increased their share of votes from 26.06 percent to 28.68 percent, making them the only party to increase their vote in Adana. The MHP’s vote share dropped from 11.76 percent to 11.02 percent, while the IYI Party’s share fell from 12.15 percent to 10.81 percent, and the Green Left Party’s share decreased from 13.53 percent to 9.72 percent.
Overall, Adana’s election results show a diverse range of parties represented in Parliament and a shift in votes towards the CHP. The newly elected members of Parliament will represent the people of Adana in the coming term.
