Strict Control Inspections Before New Year’s Eve in Istanbul
The Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry in Istanbul has carried out strict inspections before the arrival of the New Year. The inspections were conducted at businesses that produce bakery products, warehouses, and production kitchens of restaurants selling alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, as well as mass consumption facilities.
During the inspection in the Kadıköy district, one business was closed due to violations, while three others were given a grace period to rectify issues. The Provincial Director Ahmet Yavuz Karaca revealed that in 2023, fines totaling 142 million lira were imposed on 5,550 businesses found to be non-compliant.
In preparation for the New Year celebrations, the Istanbul Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry mobilized 730 inspectors to scrutinize businesses involved in the production, distribution, and sale of bakery goods, grocery items, and retail and wholesale of beverages. Businesses not adhering to hygiene standards were penalized during the inspections. In Kadıköy, one workplace was shut down for failing to meet hygiene requirements, while three others were given time to address the shortcomings.
Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, Ahmet Yavuz Karaca, personally participated in the inspection process. He expressed dismay upon encountering unsanitary conditions at one business and emphasized the need for businesses to maintain standards at all times. Karaca outlined the comprehensive nature of the inspections, explaining that they are carried out countrywide to ensure the safety and integrity of the food production and distribution system.
In light of the upcoming New Year celebrations, enforcement activities have been amplified. Inspections of patisseries, nut shops, and establishments serving alcohol have been intensified to guarantee compliance. Karaca affirmed that 8,907 samples were collected during the inspections of approximately 225,000 individuals and 5,550 businesses, with administrative fines totaling 142 million imposed for non-compliance.
Karaca further elaborated on the specific enforcement actions, including suspending production at locations deemed to pose a threat to public health. A business in Kadıköy was closed for violating regulations, while others faced penalties and corrective actions.
The robust inspection regime reflects the commitment of the authorities to ensure public safety and service standards as the New Year approaches.
