
Preserving Our Cultural Heritage: Shaping Our Future – BRTK

President Ersin Tatar, the leader of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, recently attended the closing event of the 2nd Türksoy Museum Union Country Coordinators Workshop. During his speech at the event, President Tatar emphasized the significance of the workshop on museumism and commended the efforts put into it.
Highlighting the rich history of Cyprus that spans thousands of years, President Tatar stressed the importance of preserving cultural heritage as a valuable asset that must be safeguarded for future generations. He also mentioned the historical monuments from Cyprus that are currently housed in museums in New York and London, expressing his hope for their return to their rightful place.
President Tatar, along with his wife Sibel Tatar and the support of the Antiquities and Museums Department, inaugurated the “Cyprus Gates and Crates Museum” located at the Nicosia Mücahitler Sitesi. The museum showcases doors and chests from various regions, offering a glimpse into Cyprus’ cultural heritage. Additionally, President Tatar recalled the opening of the National Struggle Museum in collaboration with Etimesgut Municipality two years ago.
Looking towards the future, President Tatar announced plans to open the Presidential Campus and the Republican Assembly on May 3, indicating that the current presidential building could potentially serve as a museum. He expressed willingness to explore the possibility of establishing museums on different themes in the TRNC, leveraging technological advancements to display documents and images effectively.
President Tatar acknowledged the significance of the National Archives and Research Department, emphasizing the importance of preserving and showcasing vital documents for future generations. He extended his gratitude to participants from Turkish states who contributed their knowledge and experiences during the museum workshop, organized by Türksoy and the Turkish States Organization.
Overall, President Tatar’s dedication to preserving and promoting cultural heritage through museums underscores his commitment to safeguarding Cyprus’ rich history and heritage for generations to come.
