President Aliyev Inaugurates Restored Mehmandarovs’ Estate Complex in Shusha

On May 9th, President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva attended the unveiling of the Mehmandarovs’ Estate Complex following restoration work carried out by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in Shusha.

The head of state and first lady were briefed on the restoration work carried out in the complex and the history of the buildings. The Mehmandarovs’ Estate Complex was originally built by the Mehmandarov family in the 18th century. The complex consists of a large residential building, a smaller residential building, a family mosque, and a spring. The restoration began in October 2021.

After the revitalization, a museum was created within the complex. The museum’s exhibit, titled “Karabakh Aristocrat’s House,” showcases over 150 ancient items on display.

The restoration of the Mehmandarovs’ Estate Complex is part of the large-scale reconstruction of the city of Shusha, which is considered the cultural capital of Azerbaijan. The Heydar Aliyev Foundation has been a key actor in the city’s restoration efforts. The foundation is a non-profit organization established by Azerbaijan’s First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, which operates under the slogan “One nation, two states.” The foundation’s efforts aim to promote Azerbaijani cultural heritage both at home and abroad.

The opening of the Mehmandarovs’ Estate Complex is a significant milestone for the preservation of Azerbaijan’s cultural heritage. It provides an opportunity for visitors to explore the country’s rich history and enjoy the unique beauty of Shusha.
