President Atan Urges Assembly to Pass Law Protecting Temporary and Contract Workers

Urgent Call for Legislation to Secure Employment Rights in Northern Cyprus
In a recent statement, Metin Atan, President of the Turkish Cypriot Public Officials Union (Kamusen), highlighted the precarious situation faced by temporary and contracted personnel in Northern Cyprus. He emphasized that these workers have endured years of uncertainty regarding their employment and urgently called for the passage of a law that would guarantee their rights.
Atan expressed frustration over the delay in legislative action, stating that the fate of these employees should not be left to “distraction tactics.” He appealed directly to Prime Minister Ünal Üsel, urging him to uphold his promise to deliver the law to the Parliament after the upcoming feast. "Mr. Prime Minister, fulfill your promise in front of the public," he asserted. "The rights of the laborers cannot be postponed further."
In a display of solidarity, Atan assured that Kamusen would actively monitor the legislative process. He emphasized that commitments made by officials are crucial for maintaining public trust and urged that action be taken without delay. “The words given are the basis of the sense of trust; it should be done immediately,” he remarked.
As workers continue to navigate a landscape of uncertainty, the call for meaningful reform is more pressing than ever. The proposed legislation seeks not only to provide stability but also to affirm the rights of individuals who have long been without security in their positions. The outcome of this legislative initiative will be pivotal in shaping the future of public employment in Northern Cyprus.
