President donates gifts to children’s home in Transylvania

President Tamás Sulyok recently visited the St. Francis Foundation’s children’s home in Deva, Romania, to honor the decades of service provided by Franciscan friar, Csaba Böjte, to disadvantaged children. During his visit, President Sulyok brought gifts for the children from various Transylvanian homes and enjoyed performances by the kids in return.

Founded in 1993 by Father Csaba, the St. Francis Foundation has made a significant impact on the lives of children in need by operating 52 residential and 20 day-care centers in Romania. Over the past thirty years, the foundation has cared for and educated approximately 6,000 children who have been abandoned or are facing financial hardship. The organization relies on private donations and public funds to continue its essential work.

President Sulyok expressed his admiration for the strong sense of community present in the Deva home, emphasizing the importance of unity in today’s society. He stressed the need to strengthen communities for the survival and prosperity of nations, highlighting the power of coming together and supporting one another.

During his visit, President Sulyok lit the third Advent candle in the Deva chapel, symbolizing the Sunday of Joy. Father Csaba described this act as a special gift for the residents, connecting it to the true meaning of Christmas and encouraging everyone to be gifts for each other throughout the year.

The visit underscored the enduring values of faith, community, and charity, exemplified by Father Böjte’s mission to provide a supportive environment for vulnerable children. The President’s presence emphasized the importance of resilience and mutual care in creating a brighter future for all.
