President Erdogan Congratulates Employees on Labor and Solidarity Day
President Erdogan delivered a speech on May 1st, Labor and Solidarity Day. He greeted the distinguished managers of the Memur-You Confederation as well as young people, ladies and gentlemen, and expressed his respect to those who are fighting for labor rights all over the country. He gave his condolences to the family of the late police officer Ozgur Barcin and Rasul Barutcu. He commended the Memur-Sen community for their efforts in the fight against tutelage systems, gangs, mafia, terrorist organizations, and junta members. Erdogan stated that Turkish institutions such as Memur-Sen have remained firm in their values and have played a significant role in the development of the country.
The President spoke about the earthquake that occurred earlier this year in Turkey and gave thanks to those who helped the victims of the disaster. He mentioned that the government has given a welfare share of 13.5% to public employees and raised their salaries up to 30%. Erdogan also promised that there will be a regulation in July to account for the increase in welfare share and inflation.
Erdogan criticized other groups who used the earthquake as material for their political campaigns, stating that they only posed at the ruins and did not do anything to help. He highlighted the government’s efforts in providing disaster housing for those affected by the earthquake and spoke of the plans to complete over 650,000 residences in the coming year.
The President shared that the government has also made significant efforts to help retirees by increasing the lowest pension to 7,500 liras and holiday bonuses to 2,000 liras. He made these announcements while preparing for the upcoming elections and emphasized the importance of voting for a future that prioritizes democratic values and state mysticism.
Erdogan ended his speech by saying that the People’s Alliance is not LGBT and stated that the election on May 14th is an important one for the future of the country. He called on the people to remember those who were affected by the May 27 coup and those who lost their lives in the fight for democracy during the July 15 coup.
