President Presents Corvin Chain to Nobel Prize Winners
Hungarian Scientists Katalin Karikó and Ferenc Krausz Awarded the Corvin Chain of Honor
President Tamás Sulyok recently awarded the Hungarian Corvin Chain of Honor to two esteemed Hungarian scientists, Prof. Dr. Katalin Karikó and Prof. Dr. Ferenc Krausz, at a ceremony held in the Sándor Palace. The two scientists were honored for their remarkable scientific work, which led to them being awarded the Nobel Prize in 2023.
During the ceremony, President Tamás Sulyok praised Katalin Karikó and Ferenc Krausz as heroes of the past year, bringing worldwide recognition to Hungary. Their groundbreaking discoveries not only enriched the scientific community but also brought pride and glory to their country.
Prof. Dr. Katalin Karikó, a Nobel Prize-winning biochemist and research biologist, was recognized for her pioneering work in the development of synthetic mRNA-based vaccines, as well as her contribution to Hungarian science. Prof. Dr. Ferenc Krausz, a Nobel Prize and Wolf Prize-winning physicist, was acknowledged for his research in attosecond physics.
Both Katalin Karikó and Ferenc Krausz expressed their gratitude at the ceremony for being appointed members of the Hungarian Corvin Chain Board. The Hungarian Corvin Chain of Honor is a prestigious award, limited to a maximum of fifteen recipients at any given time. With the addition of Katalin Karikó and Ferenc Krausz, the board now has a total of 14 members, reflecting the exceptional talent and contributions of Hungarian scientists to the world.
