President Ersin Tatar Discusses UN Contacts and Cyprus Issues
President Ersin Tatar recently appeared as a guest on BRT, where he discussed various topics including the recent contacts with Holguin, the Personal Representative of the UN Secretary General. Tatar highlighted the importance of sovereign equality and equal international status in the cooperation between states, emphasizing the need for direct trade, flights, and contact.
During the interview, Tatar expressed his dissatisfaction with the ongoing embargoes and isolations faced by Turkish Cypriots, despite their efforts to establish a Republic with inherent rights. He stressed the importance of addressing the realities of Cyprus for a permanent agreement, as suggested by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Tatar also mentioned the possibility of starting a new negotiation process if common ground is found, but noted that recent actions by Holguin, which exceeded his authorization, were not favorable. He urged the Personal Representative to accurately report the facts and respect the sovereignty and equal international status of the TRNC.
