President Tatar Attends Denktaş Commemoration Meeting
President Ersin Tatar recently attended the “TRNC Founding President Rauf R. Denktaş Commemoration Meeting as an Artist on the 100th Anniversary of his Birth” in Ankara. During the meeting, President Tatar opened an exhibition containing photographs taken by Denktaş before the panel in Türksoy. Several distinguished individuals were also in attendance, including some notable guests such as Vice President of the Republic of Turkey Cevdet Yılmaz, Serdar Denktaş, and Deputy Prime Minister Fikri Ataoğlu.
The TRNC Ankara Ambassador İsmet Korukoğlu delivered an opening speech at the event, emphasizing Denktaş’s commitment to the cause of rights, equality, and freedom for the Turkish Cypriot people. He praised Denktaş for defending this just struggle, showcasing his courage and diplomatic intelligence, and for tirelessly working to make the voice of the Turkish Cypriots heard globally.
Ambassador Korukoğlu also highlighted Denktaş’s artistic side, sharing that he carried his passion for photography with him everywhere he went. The event included the opening of an exhibition featuring a selection of Denktaş’s photographs, reflecting his deep love for his country and people.
TRNC Deputy Prime Minister Fikri Ataoğlu also spoke at the commemoration and expressed gratitude for the event organized to remember Rauf Raif Denktaş’s life, leadership, and legacy. Ataoğlu praised Denktaş as a great statesman who dedicated his life to defending the freedom and rights of the Turkish Cypriot people, and emphasized his role in pioneering the establishment of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
The event also featured discussions led by various speakers, including Serdar Denktaş, who read his father’s poems, commemorating his legacy and discussing the impact of Denktaş’s leadership on the Turkish Cypriot people and the island of Cyprus.
Additionally, Cevdet Yılmaz, Vice President of the Republic of Turkey, delivered a speech where he paid tribute to Denktaş’s artistic and intellectual contributions.
