President Tatar attends opening of METU Northern Cyprus Campus Academic Year
President Ersin Tatar attended the opening ceremony of the Middle East Technical University (METU) Northern Cyprus Campus for the 2024-2025 Academic Year. In his speech at the ceremony, President Tatar highlighted METU’s “superior standards and quality” and noted that thousands of graduates are currently employed in important positions in their respective countries. He expressed pride in METU’s ranking as the top university in Turkey.
President Tatar also congratulated those who were involved in establishing METU’s campus in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus 20 years ago, emphasizing the positive impact it has had on the development of the Güzelyurt region. He mentioned the presence of international students at METU and how they have contributed to the recognition of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and elevated the country’s brand value in higher education.
Addressing the global challenges of wars, tensions, concerns about the future, and climate change, President Tatar emphasized the importance of METU’s work in overcoming these difficulties and fostering a hopeful outlook for the future. He acknowledged the role of METU Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yozgatlıgil, who previously served as the Deputy Minister of Industry and Technology in Turkey, in guiding and developing students.
President Tatar concluded by extending his best wishes for a successful academic year and hoped for auspicious outcomes for the students and faculty of METU. The event marked an important milestone for the university and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus as a whole.
