President Tatar Denied Three-Way Meeting Invitation from Guterres, Accuses Christodoulides of Ambushing

President Ersin Tatar of Cyprus has made it clear that any negotiations on the Cyprus issue must recognize the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriot side. In a recent statement, President Tatar emphasized that the Turkish side will not entertain discussions on a federal solution and there will be no return to previous negotiations.

President Tatar stated, “The search for a federal solution ended in Crans Montana. There is no common ground for negotiations to resume on the Cyprus issue. The Greek Cypriot Leader’s claims of a three-party meeting are baseless and there is no invitation from the UN Secretary-General for such a meeting.”

Highlighting the efforts of the Greek Cypriot Leader to create perceptions and pressure the Turkish side, President Tatar urged for a focus on the realities of the situation on the island. He reiterated that negotiations cannot begin without the recognition of the Turkish side’s sovereign equality and equal international status.

President Tatar also emphasized the strong cooperation with Turkey in handling the Cyprus issue and vowed to counter any attempts to manipulate the situation. He stated, “We are implementing our policies on the Cyprus issue in full cooperation and harmony with Turkey. We will continue to oppose any games being played and remain steadfast in our position.”

The stance of President Tatar underscores the importance of recognizing the rights and status of the Turkish Cypriot side in any future negotiations on the Cyprus issue.
