
President Tatar Emphasizes Importance of Culture and Art in Turkish Cypriot Struggle

President Ersin Tatar and his wife, Sibel Tatar, attended the “Touch of Angels” Painting and Sculpture Exhibition organized by Monart Academy. During the event held at the Girne American University Monart Gallery, President Tatar expressed his joy at being part of the exhibition, which was organized by Sevim Erdal, the wife of businessman Memduh Erdal, a founder of the university.
President Tatar commended Sevim Erdal for her dedication in bringing together a diverse collection of works in the field of culture and art. He also congratulated the teachers and students who contributed to the exhibition, emphasizing the significance of culture and art in the Turkish Cypriot community’s struggle for existence.
Reflecting on his recent visit to Australia, President Tatar highlighted the efforts of Turkish Cypriots in preserving their cultural heritage through various artistic events. He emphasized the unity and resilience of Turkish Cypriots, no matter where they are in the world, in their commitment to Cyprus.
President Tatar referenced the words of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, emphasizing the importance of art and culture in national identity. Quoting Atatürk, he stated, “A nation without art means that one of its life veins has been severed.” This sentiment underscores the enduring significance of cultural expression in the Turkish Cypriot community and beyond.
