President Tatar emphasizes right to coexistence and sovereign equality in message to international community.
President Ersin Tatar attended a book launch event in Kyrenia where the biography book entitled “A Cry for Justice” was introduced. The book was written by British writer Jennifer Vardy and focuses on the life of President Tatar. During his speech at the event, President Tatar expressed his gratitude to Jennifer Vardy and the contributors, Erdem Erginel and Taner Erginel, for their hard work on the book. He noted that his main goal has always been to do what is best for Turkish Cypriots, even during his time in England when he learned about British culture and people.
President Tatar mentioned that the book covers the events that occurred on the island of Cyprus before 1960, where Turkish Cypriots were excluded from the Republic of Cyprus despite the principle of equality. He emphasized the importance of the presence of Turkish soldiers for the security and stability of the region as Turkish Cypriots have the right to live side by side with Greek Cypriots on the basis of sovereign equality. Tatar stated that international recognition is essential to establishing fairer relations between the two countries and cited the lack of direct flights as an impediment caused by this missing recognition.
The President further added that tourism and higher education are developing rapidly in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. People from many countries are investing in the country and prefer to live there. British writer Jennifer Vardy praised President Tatar’s politics and his dedication to the TRNC and Turkish Cypriot people.
In his speech, President Tatar called for the acceptance of the sovereign equality of Turkish Cypriots before starting negotiations. He also stressed the importance of reciprocity, drawing attention to the fact that the Greek Cypriot leader represented the entire Cyprus while Charles was not invited to the coronation ceremony after the death of the King.
President Tatar pledged that they would continue to work hard to establish fairer and equal relationships for future generations. In conclusion, he noted that the British are always welcome in the TRNC, and they give the Turkish Cypriot people strength while defending their cause.
