President Tatar Meets with LTB President Harmancı to Discuss New Border Gate Openings

President Ersin Tatar recently met with LTB President Mehmet Harmancı to discuss the opening of new border gates and evaluate the current developments. During the meeting, President Tatar highlighted the need for mutual transitions at the border gates and expressed concerns over the Greek leader’s lack of response to the proposal to open the Akincilar-Klimya Border Gate.

President Tatar emphasized the importance of security in transit proposals and noted that the increasing number of transitions in Nicosia is causing traffic congestion that affects both sides. He also mentioned that the EU officials have shown a positive response to the opening of the Haspolat gate for commercial transitions in line with the Green Line Regulation.

On the other hand, LTB President Mehmet Harmancı stressed the significance of consultation between the parties and highlighted the need to ease mutual transitions at border gates such as Haspolat and Akincilar-Klimya. He expressed hope that the recent dialogue progress in Haspolat will lead to the opening of new transition gates in Nicosia.

Both President Tatar and LTB President Harmancı agreed that all relevant stakeholders should approach the issue with good intentions and work towards opening the new border gates as soon as possible. They also expressed readiness to discuss any technical aspects or additional points in Nicosia that may need to be addressed in the process.

Overall, the meeting between President Tatar and LTB President Harmancı showcased a shared commitment to improving border gate operations and facilitating smoother mutual transitions for the benefit of both sides. The leaders are hopeful that their dialogue will result in tangible progress towards the opening of new border gates in the near future.
