President Tatar Promotes Continued Development of Tourism Activities
The President of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Ersin Tatar, has attended the 33rd Ordinary General Assembly Meeting of the Turkish Cypriot Tourism and Travel Agencies Association (KITSAB).
During the general assembly, President Tatar emphasized the significance of tourism as a major economic sector for the country. He highlighted the need to expand beyond the traditional sea, sun, and sand tourism and to incorporate the country’s rich history and culture into different tourism models. President Tatar stressed the importance of human resources and numerous sub-sectors related to tourism in effectively carrying out tourism activities.
President Tatar also noted the increasing awareness and brand of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in the tourism sector. He praised the stability, peace, tranquility, and security that has been maintained on the island since 1974, attributing it to the growth of tourism investments and the influx of tourists to the country.
Moreover, President Tatar highlighted the success of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in navigating the challenges of the pandemic period, emphasizing the safety of the country and the potential for health tourism. He expressed optimism for overcoming any difficulties in the tourism sector.
Addressing the obstacles created by the Greek Cypriot side, President Tatar condemned their reluctance to acknowledge the northern region and emphasized the potential for growth in ecotourism activities. He also underlined the state’s role in fulfilling its responsibilities regarding environmental protection and natural resource conservation.
President Tatar also highlighted the potential impact of the new terminal building and runway of Ercan Airport, anticipating an influx of more visitors and larger planes to the country. He stressed the need to increase the average accommodation period for tourists and reduce the prices of plane tickets.
