President Tatar Remains Bound by Constitution, Confirms Presidency Press Office

President Ersin Tatar of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) will continue his constitutional duties under the rule of law, the Presidency Press Office stated in response to recent allegations made by Tufan Erhürman, the Chairman of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP), during a parliamentary session. The office described the accusation made by Erhürman that the “top of the state” was empty as an “unfortunate statement” and “unacceptable”. In the statement, the Presidency Press Office clarified that President Tatar had been appointed to the Office of the Chief Prosecutor and had given the mandate of the presidency to the Speaker of the Assembly in accordance with Article 105 of the Constitution. The statement also stated that Erhürman’s detachment from the legal plane when discussing the issue did not suit his identity as a “Constitutional Lawyer”.
