President Tatar Thanks Britain’s European Minister for Supporting Turkish Cypriots
President Ersin Tatar of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus called for an end to the injustices against Turkish Cypriots in terms of direct flights, trade, and sporting embargoes during a meeting with British Minister of Europe Leo Docherty. Tatar emphasized that ignoring Turkish Cypriots was a great injustice and requested Britain’s support in correcting these issues. Tatar highlighted the unfair treatment of Turkish Cypriots, including the rejection of a solution plan that was accepted by the Turkish Cypriot side in 2004 while the Greek Cypriot side subsequently joined the European Union. He also requested the lifting of sporting embargoes and inclusion of Turkish Cypriot teams in a volleyball organization to be held in England. Additionally, Tatar brought up the issue of not inviting Turkish Cypriots to the coronation ceremony of Charles, the King of England III. He emphasized that it was unfair to ignore the existence and rights of Turkish Cypriots and called for their equal treatment.
