President Ersin Tatar Addresses Misunderstandings Regarding Turkish Ports and Greek Cypriot Claims
In a recent statement, President Ersin Tatar firmly rejected the claims from the Greek Cypriot side that Turkish ports will be opened to ships of the Greek Cypriot Administration. He characterized these assertions as part of a “perception operation” aimed at misleading the public, emphasizing that such rumors are unfounded.
Tatar pointed out a glaring inconsistency: the absence of any formal response from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), questioning why there wasn’t a clear statement denying the accusations. He noted that the Greek Foreign Ministry had already dismissed these claims, indicating that the suggestions surrounding Greek Cypriot-flagged ships are purely fictitious.
The president reiterated that the Turkish Cypriot community continues to move forward with dignity and determination. "The Turkish Cypriot people are steadfast in their honorable journey and resist manipulative narratives," he stated. Tatar underscored that the ongoing false news operations by the Greek Cypriot side will not hinder their progress.
Tatar characterized the rumors about the ports as another instance of the Greek side’s long-standing history of manipulation and deceit. He specifically called out certain political figures, such as Mr. Tufan Erhürman, for attempting to create a narrative of state failure by questioning the lack of responses from TRNC officials.
"The claims being circulated are meant to generate political discourse that distracts from the realities faced by the Turkish Cypriot community," Tatar explained. He emphasized that this situation transcends mere port activity; it directly pertains to the sovereign rights and international status of the Turkish Cypriots.
On the topic of the opposition, Tatar accused them of undermining the Turkish Cypriot people’s aspirations. He criticized their alignment with Greek interests, which he claims have historically resulted in adverse outcomes for the Turkish Cypriots over the past five decades.
Highlighting the oppressive policies enforced by the Greek Cypriot side, Tatar mentioned that fundamental rights—such as sports, direct flights, and cultural exchanges—have been repeatedly obstructed. He urged the Greek side to recognize that the removal of restrictions can only occur through cooperation and acknowledgment of the Turkish Cypriot community.
Tatar concluded his remarks by affirming his commitment to representing the interests of the Turkish Cypriot people. "I will continue to assert our will and sovereignty, ensuring that our presence and determination are acknowledged in both international forums and local discussions," he declared. He stressed that the Turkish Cypriot community is an active participant, not a passive observer in their destiny, and urged respect for their rightful place in the dialogue surrounding their future.
