President Ersin Tatar of Cyprus Returns from New York
After completing his important meetings in New York, President Ersin Tatar has returned home to Cyprus. President Tatar held a press conference at Ercan Airport to discuss the outcomes of his meetings and contacts in New York.
During his time in New York, President Tatar had intensive meetings with his special representative Güneş Onar. They had the opportunity to explain in detail the just cause of the Turkish Cypriot people in these meetings. President Tatar highlighted that they had a significant meeting with the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Gutteres, where he emphasized the continued existence of the Turkish Cypriots under their own rule for over 60 years.
President Tatar also met with Turkish President Erdoğan and other Turkish officials, reaffirming their strong cooperation. They confirmed that the solution proposals presented in Geneva in April 2021 remain valid. President Erdoğan reiterated in his speech at the 79th UN General Assembly that the Federation will not be on the table in the solution process and highlighted the importance of recognizing the sovereignty of the Turkish Cypriots.
President Tatar expressed his gratitude to President Erdoğan for his strong statements and emphasized that the Turkish Cypriot side is committed to dialogue for a fair and permanent agreement. He also addressed the issue of unfair embargoes on the Turkish Cypriots and proposed a tripartite meeting to create an environment for informal consultations.
