President Tokayev Backs Creation of Supercomputer Cluster in Kazakhstan
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev recently emphasized the strategic importance of developing Kazakhstan’s digital infrastructure, specifically focusing on the creation of a supercomputer cluster. During a meeting with Presight.AI CEO Thomas Pramotedham on March 13, President Tokayev discussed the significance of this initiative in positioning Kazakhstan as a regional leader in Central Asia in terms of AI advancement.
One year ago, Kazakhstan signed an agreement with the United Arab Emirates’ Presight AI Holding to establish a supercomputer and a Data Processing Center. This decision was made in response to President Tokayev’s instructions, highlighting the need for a high-performance supercomputer that would benefit not only researchers but also businesses operating in Kazakhstan. The supercomputer, with its capability to execute trillions and sometimes quadrillions of computational tasks, is expected to enhance various sectors including IT, financial services, healthcare, energy, manufacturing, education, and e-government.
In addition to the supercomputer project, President Tokayev and Thomas Pramotedham also discussed the Smart City project, which aims to integrate AI solutions for managing urban infrastructure. The Astana smart city project, implemented in partnership with the Astana administration, will leverage AI-driven video analytics to improve urban management, traffic optimization, and public safety. The project will feature Astana’s digital twin connecting over 100,000 surveillance cameras to an AI-powered video analytics system, enhancing emergency response and overall security.
Furthermore, the establishment of a situation center at the Alem.AI International Artificial Intelligence Center was emphasized during the meeting. This center will enhance the efficiency of city services by uniting IT companies, research labs, startups, and educational programs to develop AI solutions. Both parties highlighted the importance of localizing technologies and involving Kazakh companies in joint projects, with Presight.AI expressing their intention to collaborate long-term in support of Kazakhstan’s digital transformation and technological growth.
