President Tokayev Declares Oil and Gas as Cornerstone of Kazakhstan’s Economy
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev Emphasizes the Significance of Oil and Gas Industry in Kazakhstan
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev highlighted the importance of oil and gas as strategic resources and the foundation of the national economy during a meeting on August 29th commemorating the 125th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s oil and gas industry. The President noted that nearly 250,000 people are currently employed in this sector, which has not only focused on raw material extraction but also developed its processing capabilities.
Kazakhstan has achieved significant milestones in the production of fuel and oil products, with the KazMunayGas national company playing a key role in this success. President Tokayev acknowledged the contributions of global oil and gas giants such as Chevron, ExxonMobil, CNPC, Eni, Shell, Lukoil, Total, and Sinopec in the development of projects like Tengiz, Kashagan, and Karachaganak, as well as the Caspian Pipeline Consortium.
The President emphasized the need for advanced technologies in geological exploration and field development to ensure sustainable production growth and highlighted the importance of diversifying export routes in the face of international challenges. Tokayev also underscored the significance of the oil refining sector, calling for the production of petroleum products that meet modern environmental standards and the potential of the petrochemical industry.
President Tokayev stressed the importance of increasing localization levels and using products from Kazakh entrepreneurs in the sector, as well as strengthening social responsibility and contributing to the development of socially significant infrastructure. He also emphasized the need for training qualified personnel in the industry.
