President Tokayev Inaugurates Xi’an Logistics Terminal, Signifying Historic Kazakh-China Partnership
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev Launches Transportation and Logistics Terminal in Xi’an
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev recently participated in a teleconference launching the transportation and logistics terminal in Chinese Xi’an on Feb. 28. The joint project between Kazakhstan and China aims to enhance connectivity and facilitate trade between the two countries and beyond.
The construction of the logistics center in the dry port of Xi’an follows an agreement between the leaders of Kazakhstan and China. This center will serve as a crucial link connecting Xi’an with Kazakhstan, Central Asia, and Europe, leveraging Xi’an’s status as China’s largest dry port and a key transit hub for Chinese container trains heading to the European Union.
With a project capacity exceeding 66,500 TEU per year, Kazakhstan’s terminal in Xi’an is expected to open new markets for Kazakh exporters, reduce cargo delivery time significantly, and bolster Kazakhstan’s role as a reliable transit hub in Eurasia.
Following the terminal launch, President Tokayev inaugurated an Innovation Center jointly established by Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) national railway company and Chinese Huawei. This center, part of the global ‘One Belt, One Road’ initiative, aims to enhance rail transport efficiency through digital solutions.
The Smart Railway project implemented at the Innovation Center utilizes innovative IT solutions such as cloud technology, Big Data, IoT, and AI to modernize KTZ’s infrastructure and services. These advancements aim to enhance transportation efficiency, optimize costs, and position Kazakhstan as a central transit hub on the continent.
President Tokayev emphasized the importance of accelerating digitalization in the transportation sector to drive economic development. By embracing advanced IT solutions and digital transformation, Kazakhstan aims to improve transportation efficiency, reduce costs, and catalyze economic growth in the region.
The successful partnership between Kazakhstan and China in launching the transportation and logistics terminal in Xi’an and establishing the Innovation Center highlights the commitment of both countries to enhancing connectivity and trade cooperation in Eurasia.
