President Tokayev Stresses Significance of Protecting Children’s Rights

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized the need to strengthen the protection of children’s rights and health during a meeting with Commissioner for Children’s Rights, Aruzhan Sain, on June 1. The meeting was held as part of the President’s visit to Almaty to mark International Children’s Day. Tokayev identified the need to ensure children’s safety and prevent juvenile delinquency, as well as the importance of fulfilling the rights of orphans and supporting children with disabilities. He also urged the Commissioner for Children’s Rights to tackle child abuse and combat bullying, while preventing child and adolescent suicidal behavior.

During his visit to Almaty’s Center for Innovative Creativity of Schoolchildren, Tokayev encouraged young people to continue pursuing their interests to achieve success in life and social recognition. He highlighted the need for increasing centers that develop creative abilities and help children realize their potential in Kazakhstan. Deputy Akim of Almaty, Assem Nussupova, revealed that only 10% of the 320,000 schoolchildren in the city are engaged in free creative clubs or sports in state institutions that provide additional education.

As part of Tokayev’s instruction to build 100 modern schoolchildren’s palaces, the Almaty administration plans to increase the coverage of children with free additional education by up to 25% by the end of 2025. Additionally, on International Children’s Day, 70 outstanding students and Olympiad winners from around the country were given an educational tour of the Akorda Presidential Palace in Astana.
